Hi Midlifers!
How’s everyone feeling after that BLAST of summer heat we had on the East Coast yesterday? Were you, like me, forced to expose arms and legs in an effort to stay cool in the sweltering humidity?
It’s been mild enough her in New Jersey that I still haven’t officially transitioned my seasonal clothing. Instead, I’ve been digging out a piece here or there from one of the big plastic bins I’ve dragged out of a crawl space and that are now piled up on my bedroom floor.
I did have to dip in last week for that coffee date I told you about. I was looking less for summer-y pieces and more for things that were more boy-friendly. It wasn’t until the prospect of a date presented itself that I realized that my entire wardrobe was very girl-centric. That I dressed like a character in a Nancy Meyers movie (specifically: Diane Keaton) and that when I go to the office or out to dinner, I’m dressing for the ladies.
What does that look like? My friend/coworker said the video above reminded her of me.
Rummaging through my summer wardrobe, I desperately hoped I’d find something more boy-friendly under the sea of Old Navy linen pants and baggy dresses I wore all last summer to work from home.
I talked over my outfit choices with my dating focus group, three 20/30-something coworkers, and my super-stylish friend, Jess, suggested jeans and a tank top. So cute, however: “Mama does not wear tank tops.”
I hemmed and hawed about whether to wear squeezy Mother jeans or my go-to barrel jeans (I went with the latter) and settled on a Madewell top I bought for Europe with a crewneck and big puffy sleeves.
