Wait. Marcia. You live in South Africa???!! I need to pay better attention! Interesting abut books being expensive. How do you like that one? It's been on my list mostly because of the Talking Heads lyrics title but also because I liked her last book.
Hi Amy! You are inspiring to me as I hype myself up to hit the dating scene here in Barcelona, but an ill-timed back injury put me on the bleachers for awhile (three months now). I am healing however, slowly but surely, and like you, want to get that first date out of the way. I'm lonely too, three years since my divorce. I am lucky like you to have friends (and daughters) to hype me up so as soon as I'm ready, I know I will have a cheerleading team. As for my summer reading, devoured and loved Ocean Vuong's The Emperor of Gladness, am mesmerized by Elif Shafak's latest novel, There are Rivers in the Sky, finally got around to reading Allegra Goodman's beautiful novel Sam, and next on my list is to read my way through books 2, 3 and 4 of the Elena Ferrante books, the Neopolitan novels.
Hi Amy! I am so happy to share a little of that "spark" and honestly can't wait to hear how it goes so we can compare notes: Dating in Barcelona v. Dating on the Jersey Shore. Right off the bat, I think your pool will be much more interesting than mine. ;) Sending healing thoughts as you navigate your injury. Loved your summer reading recs, I am unfamiliar with a few of them so will be fun to investigate. xo
Well, I came to comment on your venture into dating (I’m ALL for and like yessss, get it for your wonderful self!) then on your pile of books (The Safekeep…lmk when you’ve read, would love to discuss), and then was awed by your rec. 😊 Thank you!! And still hit me up when you’ve read Safekeep; it’s weird and wonderful.
Love all of this! For summer reading, I just finished "Where the Forest Meets the Stars" by Glendy Vanderah. Oh, it was so so SO good. I like to read along AND listen to the audio, and the woman who reads the audio version is amazing. She changes her voice just enough to render each character in perfect dimensional nuance (female, male, child) that makes it feel like she's doing a one-woman show (without going overboard). And for Substack, I love Carrie Newcomer. She's a singer/songwriter of these gorgeous, heart-stirring ballads. Such beautiful poetry in a velvety alto accompanied by her acoustic guitar. Her Substack is mixed with beautiful photos of nature, her dog, food, art, poetry. It's called "A Gathering of Spirits." Enjoy, Amy!
Hi Aime....Did you ever have someone set you up on a blind date saying "they would be great for you" or "you have so much in common"???....and then finding out they are straight out of the Manson Family? Hope all is well....Bob E
That sushi looks divine. I laughed at you listening at 1.7. Tim can’t comprehend how I listen to audiobooks at faster speeds (1.5 usually). He said you’re 2/10 crazier than me :).
Looking forward to hear more about your dating adventures. I shared this with my sister in law as we were just talking about the same for her! I think she’ll love your work in general.
Ha! The book is divided into sections from 4 different POVs and I had to slow down the latest one to understand what the narrator was saying! ;) Oh yay for your sister in law! Send her my way so we can compare notes and cheer each other on!! xo
Oh dear.. Well, I am really trying to stay optimistic and hopeful and remind myself that The Universe is watching and hope she sends someone good my way, either through an app or waiting online at Wegman's or Target. ;) xo
Of course we want to see your Hinge profile! I love how you have a whole tribe of work friends to consult with in matters of dress and dating ☺️
I’m reading Same as it ever was now, and I basically read everything at least a year later because books are so expensive in South Africa.

Okay, I can get behind "weird and wonderful"! Also, so happy to share your work and can't wait to dig into your next post. xo
This makes me so happy. Love the encouragement from the groom. ❤️
The Safekeep ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I know. He wants his mom to be happy. xo

Ooooh, I am going to look into that book (I also love reading along while I listen) and Substack! Thanks for the recommendations!!! xo
Enjoy! xo

LOL Bob, no! I might have dated some duds but no one I thought was going to do me in! 😅
You are such a catch! And thank you so much for including Claire! I hope it makes you 😂💕💕💕
Seriously I am listening to her soon but will kinda miss you as the narrator! xo
You are too kind! Thank you for listening! I was so thrilled Stephanie was available for this!! xox

She’s still considering but I did share!
Lmk how it goes! I've tried a few apps recently and been utterly disgusted! I haven't tried Hinge tho!!!
